Hajnal Gyeviki is a ceramic designer and maker. She works with ceramics, porcelain, glass, and concrete, combining traditional techniques with contemporary technologies. Her research focuses on the current ecological state of Lake Balaton and its presence in public consciousness. She has created a set of ceramic tableware based on ecological data collected around the lake, with this data visually embedded in the ceramics to communicate and stimulate dialogue among local communities and residents of other lake regions.
With “Balaton Borders”, a porcelain tableware collection, Hajnal hosts curated dinners and gatherings that invite reflection on the ecological condition of Balaton’s reed beds. This reflection extends beyond the limited timeframe of the events, as the project also exists as a product line. During these dinners, she serves water, soup, and pie, often conceptually connected to the specific location. The cups are named after sites along the Balaton shoreline and marked with data related to reed-bed cutting at the location.
